We can add Wisconsin’s Governor Scott Walker to the list of opponents of the Common Core. Governor Walker put the state on notice that he intends to withdraw his state from the federal initiative. DailyCaller Reports;
“As he works to continue transforming education, Gov. Walker will work with the legislature on an education reform bill that includes accountability for all schools receiving state funds, as well as a repeal of Common Core,” Walker press secretary Laurel Patrick told The Daily Caller News Foundation.”
“The bottom line is he wants to make sure that no school district in the state is required to use the Common Core standards,” she added.”
Governor Walker is distancing himself from the stink of the Common Core, much unlike Republican Presidential hopeful Jeb Bush, who has embraced the test much to the dismay of the GOP. Wisconsin is the latest Midwestern state to make headlines as the battle rages on against the initiative.
This isn’t the first time that Governor Walker has spoken out on the subject. In January of last year, he proposed that Wisconsin should set it’s own benchmarks. He has pushed for a repeal of the Common Core in the past, but altered his message to stating that Wisconsin schools should have a choice whether they use them or not. In his inaugural speech, Governor Walker said, “We will ensure every child, despite background, has access to a good education.” Looks like he is taking an important step in attempting to repeal the Common Core.
With serious questions arising about how Common Core is data mining our children, southern states are preparing to back out on the federal K-12 standards in education. This is an issue for moderates, liberals and conservatives. Here at Take Back Your Classrooms, we are going to give people a nonpartisan perspective on this educational crisis, and hopefully a way out. If enough of us make noise, at the right time, to the right people, then I believe that we can force our lawmakers to remove this cancer from our children’s lives. Join us, and let’s take back our classrooms!
