Welcome to Take Back Your Classrooms- Uniting Americans To Take a Stand Against the Common Core

Welcome to Take Back Your Classrooms!  Since this is our first blog post, we’ll clue you in on what we’re doing with the site.  First, this site will be a place for Americans who want to take a stand against the Common Core Assessments.   You will see a constant update of articles and news from across the internet about Common Core.  In the next few weeks, we will feature what we hope will become the largest petition against Common Core testing on the internet today.

This website is the idea of a concerned group of parents and teachers.  We are not influenced by either political party.  We recognize that the Common Core initiative represents a failure of both major parties, and that neither Democrats or Republicans are likely to come up with a viable plan to remove Common Core testing from our classrooms.

The Common Core test is a cancer on our American education system that reaches all aspects of our children’s scholastic experience.  Starting with our youngest, most impressionable students, the test assaults them with senseless questions.   This testing does not constitute true academic ‘rigor’ but unnecessary extra work.  Children who should spend these years developing a love of learning, develop a loathing of testing instead, and a resentment of school itself.  Teachers are gradually becoming frustrated with a test that carries so much weight.  Many states have tied in teachers pay to their performance on standardized tests.  Many teachers will look to leave the profession, and new college entrants who are aware of the Common Core, will look to other careers.  Throughout the misery of students, teachers, and parents, Pearson Education stands to make several hundred million dollars.

We are going to give people a nonpartisan perspective on this educational  crisis, and hopefully a way out.  If enough of us make noise, at the right time, to the right people, then I believe that we can force our lawmakers to remove this cancer from our children’s lives.  Join us, and let’s take back our classrooms!
